Throughout our three decades of trading, the following core values have underpinned our operations and company culture:

Customer Service Excellence

Our customers are at the very heart of everything we do. We put a great deal of effort into understanding you and responding to your needs before any of our competitors. Customers drive every decision that we make as a business; we offer only products and services that deliver proven value to you. We work vigorously not only to attract new customers but also to earn and retain the loyalty of our existing customers.

Adaptability

Our determination to be responsive and resourceful in the face of change is the key to our success. We believe that building a healthy and prosperous business involves having the courage to change course when necessary. Our organisation has changed considerably in the last few years; prior to the recession, our main revenue stream came from large commercial and industrial fit-out projects. To survive the long downturn, we had no option but to come up with new business ideas – and quickly. From this challenging situation our successful CSI Products website was born, allowing customers to buy essential workplace equipment and supplies on a much smaller scale. We now continually strive to improve and diversify our services in response to our customers’ needs.

Teamwork

Teamwork is invaluable at CSI. Every employee has an important role to play and by working together, both within and across departments, we can pool our knowledge to improve services for our customers. We foster an atmosphere of clear and open communication, where listening effectively is considered the most critical business skill of all. Our co-operative attitude extends to our suppliers, sub-contractors and, of course, customers; we understand that it is essential to work as a team to achieve the results you deserve.

Commitment to our People

In our experience, keeping our staff happy and stimulated is essential to the health of our business. We know that our people are our biggest asset so we take every opportunity to invest in them. Our culture is one in which talent is nurtured and achievements rewarded; this is the only way we can create and maintain the best team possible.

Quality Assurance

We strive for continuous quality improvement, for products and services that are better, more efficient and increasingly fit-for-purpose. At CSI, quality does not just mean meeting basic requirements but consistently exceeding your expectations in all aspects of our business – from our robust and reliable products to our well-trained staff and sub-contractors. Accreditations from Achilles and the British Standards Institution (BSI) demonstrate our commitment to quality.

Health and Safety

We never compromise on safety. Our focus is driven by a genuine concern for people, and we work hard to improve not only the safety of our own staff but also of our customers’. A huge proportion of our product range is devoted to health and safety; we stock everything you need to ensure that your workplace complies with the latest legislation. We are also one of only a handful of companies in the UK that offer independent Storage Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (SEMA) approved racking inspections.

Founded in 1978, Eastern Storage Equipment became one of the UK’s leading independently owned storage and interiors companies supplying a comprehensive range of shelving, racking, partitioning, ceilings and full design and installation service to office and industrial environments.

Following a management buyout in the mid-1990s by Robert Kennedy and business partner John Scott, the company was re-launched under the banner ESE (Scotland) Ltd.

In the following years the company built up lucrative relationships with some of the UK’s largest companies, fitting out both office and industrial space taking the company from strength to strength, and becoming the leading Dexion distributor in the UK. Specialising in storage and handling solutions for all industrial and commercial environments.

In 2008 commercial property services provider Chess Group plc acquired ESE Scotland.
The company was merged with the industrial division of Aberdeen-based Modul8 to establish a new group company, Chess Storage and Interiors (CSI). A strategic move to capitalise on their respective regional dominance and expand throughout the UK.

Committed to the company’s continued success, Robert Kennedy and John Scott remained with the new company which doubled in size and established strong trading divisions in both the central belt and north east of Scotland.

In 2009, keeping up to speed with the emerging ecommerce market for B2B and providing for the changes in the traditional buying methods of its customers, CSI developed a full ecommerce version of its industrial and commercial equipment catalogue.

Now with several ecommerce web sites working within the CSI brand, and over 20,000 products online designed for industrial and commercial workplace environments, this has transformed the geographical reach of the business across the UK.

In 2012, in recognition of this success, CSI were presented the award for High Growth & Innovation at the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

In September 2013, Robert Kennedy and John Scott led a management buyout to buy the company back from the Chess Group. They formed the company CSI. CSI is a trading division of Dexion Material Handling Ltd.
